Introduction With almost 200 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil reserves located in the United States alone, it is not surprising why so many companies are adopting enhanced oil recovery techniques in everyday operations (ââ¬Å"Total energyâ⬠, 2012). Oil production can be broken down into three main components: primary, secondary, and tertiary recovery. Primary recovery is when the well is first drilled and the natural pore pressure of the rock squeezes hydrocarbons out of the pore space. During this time the hydrocarbons are put under immense pressure and the majority of the liquids and gases will flow to the top. Secondary recovery is when water and gas injection are used to transfer the oil from the reservoir to the surface.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Cyclic Steam Stimulation An example of thermal recovery is cyclic steam stimulation which is a method of increasing oil production by going through multiple steam cycles. First a steam generator heats water to produce steam so that the injection wells can heat the surrounding formation. Then the well is shut in and the heat is given time to diffuse into the oil, which reduces the viscosity of oil. Soon afterwards, the well returns to production and the initial oil rate is higher due to the increase in reservoir pressure. Once the heat has dissipated far into the formation, the oil saturation may drop because the porosity no longer has an external force holding the space between the grains open. After the initial cycle has been completed the cycle can be three to four times before production gains become insignificant. Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage Steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) is also a type of thermal recovery which injects steam into horizontal wells for heavy oil reservoir production and tar sand production. (Steam assisted, 2013). SAGD begins by drilling two parallel horizontal wells about four to six meters apart. Being hold the dominant position in the retail market, Padini has a huge power and opportunity to launch their new sportswear by appropriate media intervention. WO strategy: To give more efforts towards online services along with offline retail operation, the company can achieve proposed revenue in the long run (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson 2012). This strategy is quite feasible because most of the Malaysians are now preferred to shop online. Offering more products means meeting more customer demands. In this way, Padini can improve their profitability and stabilize the company profit. ST Strategy: There is a plan to introduce new sportswear by celebrity endorsement. Launching this product line by a sports personality is a good option to promote and create awareness. In this way, the company can generate maximum attention of consumers and would result higher profitability. WT Strategy: To fight against the increase competition in the apparel market, the company needs to maintain the product uniqueness and low price strategy (David and David 2016). By constant monitoring over consumers product preferences, the company can understand the trend. Collecting feedback or conducting survey process, the demands of the consumer can be reviewed and updated ranges of product accordingly is another strategy for staying in the market. By this following this strategy the company can achieve more profitability and ensure the sustainability in the market. Internally, the more effective workforce management will be implemented to deliver additional responsibilities. The more workforces may be recruited for seamless operation from the fabric and design department to product delivery. The performance of the company can be evaluated by the following ways: Suitability: By the strong media exposure, the organization can promote their new product line among their customers (Jakhar, S.K., 2015). The trust of the consumers is already achieved by the company for years long services in Malaysia. Therefore, consumer awareness can be established within a short period of time without expending much. Accessibility: Getting more return is the ultimate desire of shareholders. In this case, the company can definitely increase volume of sales and will generate more profit. This would result more return in the long run. However, shareholders must have patience for getting such return because new product needs some time to get popular. Feasibility: The improved revenue and operating profit increases the feasibility of the lunch of new product in the market. On the other hand, new product of Padini is quite competent for having effective leadership, skilled workforce and market position of the company. Conclusion with recommendations: By the above strategic analysis, this can be said that Padini Group can extend their product line and increase the market share in Malaysia. Diverse work culture, effective leadership, brand reputation, skilled workforce - all are favorable factor for the company. However, few recommendations are as follows: New products line must be promoted by mentioning features such as price, design and theme. Such promotion can be done by online because it is cost effective and powerful as well. Initially price of the products must be fixed at low so that consumer can prefer to buy this product. Quality services must be provided by the sales professionals at all stores of Padini. They can increase awareness by promoting new products by mouth publicity. Titanic Titanic Titanic still captures our imaginations after 85 years because her story is like a great novel that really happened. The story couldnt have been written better...the juxtaposition of rich and poor, the gender roles played out unto death , the stoicism and nobility of a bygone age, the magnificence of the great ship matched in scale only by the folly of the men who drove her hell bent throughout the darkness. Above all the lesson: that life is uncertain, the future unknowable...the unthinkable possible. 2,227 souls aboard. 1522 dead. Only 705 were saved, when 1360 or more could have been. Discover what happened that fateful night, hear how Dr. Ballard discovered the ship in her final resting-place. Journey back now, to TITANIC. The Royal Mail Ship TITANIC was the last grand dream of a Guilded Age. It was designed to be the greatest achievement of an era of prosperity, confidence, and propriety. Although no one knew it, the world was about to change drastically. Radio had been invented in 1901. The Wright Brothers first successful flight was in 1903. The old presumptions about class, morals, and gender-roles were about to be shattered. If the concept of Titanic was the climax of the age, then perhaps its sinking was the curtain that marked the end of an old drama and the start of a new one . The intensely competitive transatlantic steamship business had seen recent major advances in ship design, size, and speed. White Star Line, one of the leaders, was determined to focus on size and elegance rather than pure speed. In 1907, White Star Lines managing director, J. Bruce Ismay, and Lord James Pirrie, a partner in Harland & Wolff conceived of three magnificent steam ships which wou ld set a new standard for comfort, elegance, and safety. The first two were to be named Olympic and Titanic, the latter name chosen by Ismay to convey a sense of overwhelming size and strength. Titanic was 883 feet long, 92 feet wide, and weighed 46,328 tons. She was 104 feet tall from keel to bridge, almost 35 feet of which were below the waterline. Even so, she stood taller above the water than most urban buildings of the time. There were three real smokestacks and a fourth, a dummy, added largely to increase the impression of her gargantuan size and power, and to vent smoke from her kitchen and galleys. She was the largest moveable object ever made by man. The ships immense size and complexity is demonstrated by an incident recalled by Second Officer Lightoller. There was a gangway door on the starboard side aft. Moreover, she was designed to be a marvel of modern safety technology. She had a double hull of one inch thick steel plates and a system of 16 water-tight compartments, sealed by massive doors which could be instantly triggered by a single electric switch on the bridge, or even automatically by electric water sensors. The original design called for 32 lifeboats. However, White Star Management felt that the boat-deck would not look cluttered, and reduced the number to twenty, for a total lifeboat capacity of 1178. This actually exceeded the regulations of the times, even though the Titanic was capable of carrying over 3500 people. The journey began at South Hampton on Wednesday, April 10, 1912 at noon. By sundown, Titanic stopped in Cherbourg, France, to pick up additional passengers. That evening she sailed for Queenstown, Ireland, and at 1:30 PM on Thursday, April 11, she headed out into the Atlantic. The seasoned transatlantic passengers were deeply impressed by the new ship. She was so massive that they barely felt the movement of the sea at all. Her huge, powerful engines produced almost none of the annoying vibration common to other steamers, and their noise was barely perceptible. In addition, she achieved this extraordinary level of comfort while traveling at 22 knots, not the fastest boat on the route, but certainly one of the top five. Titanic was equipped with Marconis new wireless telegraph system and her two Marconi operators kept the wireless room running 24 hours a day.
